There is one consensus among most smokers-that it is an unhealthy habit and if they could quite cold turkey, they probably would. In the process, some of them have turned to the use of an electronic cigarette.
The question in everyone’s mind, however, is this: Is it actually a ‘healthy’ cigarette? The answer is somewhat a mystery but there is some evidence that some people have quite as a result.
In fact, one study in South Africa reveals that 45% of users of a particular e-cig brand quite after only two months of use. Similar results are reported all over the world in different instances.
To understand the reasoning behind using an electronic cigarette versus a regular one, you might want to consider its pros and cons. This is based on how it stacks up against traditional tobacco products as well as its own benefits and drawbacks:
Advantages-It provides smokers with yet another option for kicking the habit. The vaporized nicotine solution you inhale is believed to be less harmful to you than would be traditional tobacco smoke.
This is especially true if you are comparing an e-cig to some of the popular brands, which use processed tobacco that contains all sorts of additives. E-cigs do not contain tar, carbon dioxide, ammonia, arsenic, and excessive food additives.
Disadvantages-This method of possible smoking cessation has been researched, but many questions have not yet been answered about it. Therefore, the FDA does not yet approve it and you may not know how much nicotine is in each e-cig you purchase.
Of course, honest vendors will tell you but you cannot trust all the companies. In any case, it seems that the additives and/or toxins present in an e-cig are not at a harmful level. This is unlike regular tobacco products, which contain hundreds of harmful chemicals and substances.
The other problem is this: E-cigs are being marketed to adolescents. This can be a problem because this is the stage in life when a majority of people gets addicted to nicotine.
Although the electronic cigarette is not completely without health risks, it is considered a safer alternative to smoking in many circles. Thus, the reason it is considered healthier by many standards.
If anything, it would provide a transition from being a smoker to becoming a non-smoker. This is one step forward-maybe one past the use of filtered or light cigarettes.
